Sculpture Rock Strangers by Arne Quinze at Statue of Liberty

A 200 foot high digital sculpture was unveiled on top of the flame of the Statue of Libery, New York City yesterday – 4th of July – to mark the launch of the Beck’s Green Box Project. Rock Strangers, created by Belgian artist Arne Quinze, marked both the launch of the Beck’s Green Box Projects, the world’s first Augmented Reality Gallery and the Beck’s Art Fund.

Rock Strangers are strange objects popping up where you least expect them. Because of their intense orange-red colour the sculptures generate the sentiment of estrangement. I’m looking for confrontation with the public. I hope they start asking questions about what their function on this planet is. How do we react to unusual objects if we are confronted with them in our daily lives? Who or whst remains the stranger, the person confronted with it or the object itself, says Arne Quinze.
