It’s a Beautiful Day! Once again in late August, top names in design will gather in Jyväskylä for the Alvar Aalto Design Seminar, 31 August – 1 September, 2007.
The international Alvar Aalto Design seminar is now arranged for the fifth time. Judging by the popularity of the previous events, organisers are expecting a large gathering of international guests, with the University of Jyväskylä again providing a superb venue. The chosen theme this year is It’s a Beautiful Day, and six top names will be giving the keynote lectures. The event is chaired by Ilkka Suppanen. The lecturers from Europe and Japan will explore the challenges of today and the future – can design influence what tomorrow will be like? Besides the designers’ views, the audience will be provided with the design industry’s perspectives and a scientific approach to improving the opportunities of combining technology and nature.
There will be two exhibitions accompanying the seminar: It’s a Beautiful Day showcasing the keynote speakers’ works in the Museum of Central Finland, 31 August to 30 September, and Made in Finland with works by designers educated in Finland in the Studio of the Alvar Aalto Museum, 24 August to 7 October, 2007.
The seminar is jointly arranged by Alvar Aalto Academy and Alvar Aalto Museum. The event is supported by the City of Jyväskylä, Ministry of Education, Senate Properties, Artek and Asko Foundation.
Among the lecturers you will find: Dai Fujiwara (Japan), Louise Campbell (Denmark), Hella Jongerius (Netherlands), Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (France), Adriaan Beukers (Netherlands) and Miguel Fluxa, Camper (Spain).
