Architect and renowned furniture designer Sergio Rodrigues has been called “the creator of Brazilian furniture.” Indeed, he was responsible for establishing a new paradigm in design, setting himself apart with his very own language in his search for a Brazilian identity in design.
One of Sergio Rodrigues best-known products is the “Poltrona Mole”, from 1957, which won first prize at the IV Concorso Internazionale del Móbile, Italy, in 1961. ISA, a company in Bergamo, Italy, then started to produce and export the chair to various countries. Robust and extremely comfortable, the armchair is made of a hard solid wood structure that is lathed and polished and mounted using traditional wooden pegs. The independent leather straps and buttons can be adjusted so that the “basket” adjusts to the user’s anatomical features. Out of production for about 25 years, since 2001 the line is being reproduced exclusively by LinBrasil.
Sergio Rodrigues and the company LinBrasil is for the first time exhibiting during the Milan design week and the furniture could be seen from April 18 to April 23, 2007 at Spazio RANDOM, Corso di Porta Nuova 52.
