Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are presenting an exhibition in the Le Corbusier Apartment 50 of Radiant City in Marseille between July 15 and August 15.

It all started early this year when Jasper Morrison introduced us to the owners of one of the apartments in the housing block unit of the Marseille-based Radiant City. The Apartment 50 is not a museum; it is a lived-in space that we remodelled – just for the time of the summer season. We decided to feature a selection of objects from our collection of designs which seemed to rightly fit in this apartment and match the way the owners are living in it. As an echo to Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé’s original furniture of the space, it seemed natural to us to articulate the remodelling around the SteelWood collection, Magis – including a table, some chairs and a shelving system. Additionally, while remembering that Le Corbusier had a special interest in tapestries, we felt comfortable with the idea of installing a group of Clouds, Kvadrat up on the wall. Finally, a Zip carpet, Vitra and two of our latest lighting designs, including Lampalumina, Bitossi and LightHouse, Established & Sons and Venini, complete this ephemeral remodelling project.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec has just finished the interior for Dos Palillos, the new restaurant of the Casa Camper Hotel in Berlin. Looks great. Will try to go there soon. Between the images below you will find the story about the project told by the Bouroullec brothers.

Camper invited us to design Dos Palillos, the restaurant of the Casa Camper Hotel in Berlin Mitte that will open in January 2010. What immediately interested us was that Dos Palillos was a one of a kind culinary experience offered by Albert Raurich, elBulli’s former chef. In order to celebrate his cuisine, the concept of the restaurant gives full means of expression to his culinary art.

Naturally, the kitchen had to be the centre of the space and thus, it had to be wide open so that guests could see the preparation of the dishes from the beginning to the end. We have decided to articulate the environment around one long wooden table and the stainless steel kitchen, one module facing the other. Consequently, the guests find themselves at the centre of the kitchen, while the chef acts in front of them.

It was important for us as well to set a dialogue between the 10 cooks and their nearly 30 guests, invited in the chef’s kitchen. In order to emphasize such an interaction and encourage eye contact, we worked on different ground levels so that the guests are able to have a global experience once seated at the table, as if they were attending an artistic performance. Throughout the project, our intention was to reduce our level of intervention to the utmost to let the scenery express itself. Indeed, the space is voluntarily raw with very few elements and materials to sustain the idea that the legitimate sense of the space comes from the relation between the guests and the cuisine.

The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Casa Camper hotel. Large glass windows separate the space from the street in order to invite the people passing by to participate to the show that is happening in the kitchen.

French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec presents an exhibition called Etapes at GRAND-HORNU, from March 8th, 2009 to May 31st 2009. From Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.

If you are in Paris the next couple of days you have the possibility to check the Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec exhibition at Galerie Kreo. It’s called Clouds and is produced in collaboration with Danish manufacturer Kvadrat. The exhibition runs until Saturday 24th this month. The address is 31, rue Dauphine.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec has just opened the étapes exhibition at  Villa Noailles in Hyères. It will run until 21st of September.

This exhibition will also travel to the following places:

L’elac, L’espace Lausannois d’art contemporain in Lausanne, Switzerland 2nd October – 22nd November 2008 and Grand Hornu in Hornu, Belgium 8th March – 31st May 2009.

The Stitch room is a nice installation by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec as a part of the collective exhibition “MyHome” at Vitra Design Museum. The exhibition is up and running until September 16th, 2007. The Stitch Room is a room for rest. Much needed in our high speed society…
