Ora-Ito to build around the globe
French designer Ora-Ito and real estate entrepreneurs have teamed up with a new concept of luxury housing and resorts around the globe. The new brand is called LH&R-Luxury Houses & Resorts, a Paris based development-design joint venture. Advanced design will be delivered through the O-BY ORA-ITO brand. The O team will be the lifestylers of the new generation to meet people’s expectations for their living and working spaces. Leila Othman, O director and Partner said “People want a different lifestyle, a design that opens their space and that is environmental friendly. I believe that O is an answer to such expectations”. The developments are based on four design pillars through “the O collection”: Urban Loft, Natural Chic, Pop Fun and Neo Barocco. Not sure if I would like to live in the last one though… Neo Barocco, the name reminds me of the pompous experiments of Jaime Hayon, Studio Job and other raiders of the Vulgarism movement. Don’t know of it is good for Ora-Ito to go down that lane… Anyway, it will be interesting to follow the new venture.

love it how you keep flagging the ‘vulgarism’ in this world, david.
is it scandinavian to be that snobby? may be…
needless to say i lover that you are doing it.
surface to impress.
i see the proximity to perfume bottles and marketing driven styling strategies clearly. - pop is god. - without any measure or scale.
in your essay on vulgarism you say that you are missing the ‘intellectual’ dimension in that ‘movement’….
well maybe it is this: through the creation of over aethetisized icons and golems the new and popular movement of ‘vulgarism’ relentlessly criticises the fascist dimensions in contemporary consumers culture.
it is this open accusation that the boldest and bravest of the global design community hold against those fellow ‘form-givers’ who have long silently surrendered to the powers of wall street, empty commerce, ecology and sustainability scams.
it is this sharp conceptual standpoint of the ‘vulgarism’ movement that does not fail to impress both the critics and the followers.
a new and vital position on our global landscape.
maybe the only one today that holds any kind of reflective power. maybe the only position that holds any kind of future relevance.
‘vulgarism.’ - you are or you are not.
better be.
now.

jkh, thanks for comment. I will definitely continue to look into the phenomenon of Vulgarism every now and then. It will be interesting to see what will happen in Milan the coming month. New exercises in blown up shallowness with gaping journalists or a comeback for responsible design? Time will tell.
