20ltd is exclusively collaborating with Lane Crawford in the final stage of The Collective: Synergy in Fashion, their innovative design project celebrating the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. From October 1-20, 20ltd are offering for sale six one-of-a-kind designer outfits by Phillip Lim, Burberry Prorsum, Costume National, Maison Martin Margiela, Neil Barrett & Rick Owens. 100% of the proceeds will go to ‘Special Relief Funds for Children affected by the Sichuan Earthquake’ established by Unicef under its ‘Driving Dreams’ project.
Maison Martin Margiela’s Badminton-inspired outfit is an abstract series of shuttlecocks, all intricately hand assembled to create a backless top. A total of 109 white and yellow plastic shuttlecocks and 36 goose feathered shuttlecocks are ingrained in this chain of avant-garde apparel.
Martin Margiela is perhaps the most underexposed designer in the world of contemporary luxury fashion — and deliberately so. His clothes are branded with blank labels, his different collections are merely numerical categories, and even his catwalk models have hit the runway in veils. In 1988, the graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Jean Paul Gaultier’s former assistant launched the Maison Martin Margiela brand, which sees everyday items from unexpected perspectives and transforms the mundane and banal into beautiful treasures.
