Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have released some new images from their installation for Designers’ Days in Kvadrat showroom. 14/06/07 – 18/06/07 in Galerie des Saints-Pères, Paris.
The textile walls are constructed with individual foam fabric tiles called North tiles which connect together using an ingenious folding system. Originally conceived for the Kvadrat Stockholm showroom. The North Tiles system has created a new way of creating and dividing space with the added benefit of inherent soundproofing. Moreover, the simple assembly allows the walls to be easily reconfigured.

thank you for sharing this with us. i’m a fashion designer. one of my best friends (and fellow collaborators) does a lot of design and architectural work. his sense of spatial layout is phenomenal. he is given open and narrow spaces alike to deconstruct and reconstruct. sometimes he uses duck canvas to create round rooms… sometimes, just air. i’ll have to share yoru report, your blog and these ‘north tiles’ with him. thank you.

What is foam fabric? What qualities do the north tiles have? How much can they reduce sound? Fireproof?

Johna, try to contact Kvadrat directly with your questions. I think they will be able to give you some good answers.
